What is C.M.Y.K.? Four color process, or full color offset printing services?
This is a common question with an easy answer. Think of this as a school project, and water colors are your assignment. If you mix yellow and blue you get green. Offset printing uses the same principle, but with out the mixing. We use very fine dots (shown in the image on the right.)These tiny dots, or line screen, over lap just right so you get the exact color desired. Wether you're printing Business cards, letter heads, or any other offered products, you will be using cyan, magenta, yellow and black as your base colors.
How does your image transfer to the paper?
When printing on an offset press you have various ink fountains. These ink fountains feed down through a series of rollers. The rollers spread the ink evenly so that each color has the correct density of ink for each spot of your image. (The diagram to the left is an example of ink rollers, back cylinders, blankets and a printing plate.) After the rollers have thinned the ink properly, it then transfers the color to the printing plate. A printing plate is burned or etched with the image, one plate per color. As the press turns, the ink is then transfered onto a blanket. This blanket acts like a large rubber stamp, transferring the ink for the last time to the paper. The process is repeated for every sheet of paper run through the press.
